Day 13 - The Lady of the Lake - Stehekin

We took a beautiful boat ride today on "The Lady of the Lake" to Stehekin, Washington.  This is a town that can only be reached via boat or float plane.  We chose the boat!  It's cloudy and drizzly.  Lake Chelan is the deepest gorge in N. America.  It is 386 feet below sea level.  The lake is 51 miles long.  It is glacier carved.  We made a stop up and down the lake at Field's Point.  I was surprised at the back packers.  And all their gear.  And those coming back - geez, were they in need of a cleaning!  LOL!  Another thing that caught our attention was in all the supplies that were loaded - the amount of 50 lb. bags of dog food.  Steheken means "the way through" - the mountains through the Pacific Coast.  Stehekin relies on boats and float planes for groceries and supplies. Also the mail travels on the boat.  There are no phones.

Staying the night at Alta Lake State Park.  There's a light rain. Sounds so different in the mountains.

Stehekin Dock - there's our boat!
