Monday, June 15, 2015 - Great Sand Dunes National Park

A very pretty drive down 114 from Gunnison to get to San Luis State Park. The Sangre De Cristo mountains, snow capped, frame the valley. The sand dunes look brown in the distance.

Set up camp. We were told the lake had water for the first time in 5 years. But we couldn't kayak. Boo.

The National Park is awesome!!!!!  Walked across the Madero River to get to the dunes.  The "river" surges. Aiden got swamped to his thighs.  Funny. Cold water. Cool black sand. So cool to sit and watch it shift.  Aiden had fun rolling down the hill in it.

He earned his 3rd Jr. Ranger badge today!

At home, Tropical Storm Bill is in the gulf, going to give us a very rainy time. Amy said she picked 2 5-gallon buckets of tomatoes.  Then there are peaches......

The brown against the mountains is Great Sand Dunes.

 Crossing the Madero River

 Emptying the sand out
The 2 specks are Ron and Aiden

 Rolling down the sand dunes!
Ron and Aiden are the 2 specks again!

So shy taking that Ranger oath!
His 3rd badge!
