Rocky Mountain National Park - Snow and Forest Fires!

We arrived in Estes Park at Elk Meadow Lodge and RV Resort a day early due to the prediction of extremely high winds and then SNOW!  But before the snow, we had to deal with the nearby Cameron Peak Forest Fire.

Yep....is this the definition of social distancing?

Wildfire sure looks close!

Before pictures of site without snow

Another before picture of a hot day before snow.

Well Monday we went for a ride down the Peak to Peak Road, as we were unable to purchase a timed entry reservation into Rocky Mountain (we weren't planning on getting here early enough for that).  No pictures to show because everything was covered in smoke.

So Tuesday we woke up to a white morning and planned on just staying inside. But around noon, I got on the National Park site to see if we could get a pass into the park - yep there was about a thousand available!  Just beautiful!

America the Beautiful! (after picture)

Yep Trail Ridge Road is closed.  First to fire, now to weather.  Darn......

Ron looks cold!  And it was!!!

A little fall color!

Listen to that bugle!

I think this is my favorite!

The next day we drove back into the park. Lots of snow fog shrouding the mountain tops. But these sights just made us count our blessings.  Being from the gulf coast of Texas, we rarely get to experience the beauty of snow in the mountains.

Our first view of the mountain from our front window.

A couple of mule deer

And a bird pecking around

And some turkey

Beautiful herd of elk

Sprague Lake - crazy to see the ice building up

Today we took our last drive into the park, hoping the mountain tops would show.  Guess what......they didn't.  Anyway our walk around Bear Lake was just beautiful!

Bundled up!

The weather makes everything look gray!

Capt. Ron!

The ducks looked cold!

It was a cold trail around Bear Lake!

There's a herd of elk in the snow!

Sure wish we could have heard these boys when they start fighting!

A little snow fog!

A little ice on Sprague Lake

Potato soup to warm the soul!

We leave in the morning, heading into Wyoming with our destination in a few days of West Yellowstone.
