Our Month in South Fork, Colorado!

We took 3 days to drive the motorhome back to South Fork.  Day 1 we stopped at Fentress and so enjoyed an afternoon nap in the San Marcos River.  Day 2 we stopped at Copper Breaks State Park, where it was really hot!  Day 3 we were back at South Fork, road weary and very appreciative that our friends Donna and Greg cooked us dinner!

On Friday Ron's brother Mike, sister-in-law Terry, her sister Joy and husband Robby arrived for a week at South Fork.  Our first ATV ride was to take them over the Bachelor Loop.

Saw some pretty mule deer

Lunch break!

After breaking our guests in with this easy ride, we decided the next day to drive the buggies over to Carson City, an old abandoned mining community.  Our friend Doyle (and wife Karen) was our leader. Several other friends went as well:  Donna and Philip Gregurek, Kelley and Mike Bertsch, Jim and Linda Hensley, David and Barbara Matthews, and Brad and Rhonda Carlson. It was a long, but good day full of beautiful scenery and even a moose siting!

Getting ready to roll on out!

Break time!

Beautiful sisters Joy and Terry!

And here's Carson City!  A great lunch stop. By the way, it's for sale.

Doyle drove us to Flagpole. Robby and Joy standing on the edge!

Just beautiful!

Ron. I was too chicken to stand on the edge.

Beautiful fireweed!

Saw a couple of moose!

Looks kinda scary!

Everyone was a little tired the next day so we opted to ride in vehicles over Wolf Creek Pass into Pagosa Springs.  It was a beautiful day.

The next day us, Donna, Greg, Mike and Terry took a ride over Rat Creek.  Took a side ride down a beautiful dead end road.  Rat Creek has some beautiful scenery, but there's still one spot when you come down that I still have to close my eyes and hold my breath when your wheels leave the ground and go up in the air!

Saw quite a few mule deer.

And the birds!

Beautiful rock formations on the dead end road.

Made it to the top. Ron and Mike

Terry never moved too far being afraid of the edge!

The next day we did an easy ride over Pool Table.
A bear left his mark on an aspen tree.

Greg spied the perfect aspen tree to harvest for another walking stick.

Yep he always comes prepared!

When we got back we ate a quick bite then Greg wanted to take everyone to an old mine down the trail from South Fork.

The last day our guests were here we drove in our vehicles over to Platora to get a hamburger for lunch.  We did see a lot of deer.  The burger was so-so, I think due to Covid.  It never fails though. You're out in the middle of nowhere and you run into someone you know.  It happened to be Donna Chandler, who is the sister to our ex-sister in law. Never know!!!

Our company left and we pretty much chilled out.  Went to some farmer's markets, went junking, played cards, visited, and just enjoyed being in cooler weather and not in the Texas heat wave.

We did make a drive over to Lake City where we saw a moose!

After a rainy day, we took an awesome ATV ride with Donna, Greg, Kelley and Mike down Park Creek Road on some trails we haven't traveled before.  Saw lots of deer.  And there wasn't much dust at all due to the recent rains!  Beautiful!

As our time here in South Fork comes to an end, we look forward to heading north!
