The End of our CMT (Canadian Maritime Tour)

August 23, our last day of the tour, ended with a continental breakfast and rain.  We’ve made some good friends and it was hard to say good-bye to them. But away we go!  Customs coming back into the United States was not friendly.  We didn’t have any food items confiscated but our friends sure did!  He just couldn’t get to our refrigerator due to the slides.  Ron asked him when he would be coming to the Texas Border to work.  I don’t think he liked that remark! 

 

We stayed at Acadia Seashore Campground which is near Acadia National Park, Schoodic Penninsula.  Bar Harbor and the main part of Acadia has gotten so touristry.  We were happy to just drive the Schoodic Loop Road around this part of the park. Even had an awesome lunch out!

Next stop and campground was the Saco Old Orchard campground near Old Orchard Beach, Maine.  It was a very nice campground. Met some folks from New York who gave us some homegrown tomatoes.  And Ron cooked them some awesome burgers to go with those tomatoes.  We stayed here 2 nights.  We needed an oil change and I wanted to drive over to Kennebunkport.  Oh my goodness!  That place was crazy busy.  Found a place to park about a mile from the main part of town but decided against that craziness!  We just drove out to Walker’s Point, which is what we really wanted to see.

We got an early start on Friday.  It was going to be a long drive.  Our destination was the Williamsport/Nittany KOA in Pennsylvania.  Once we left the beach, it was all interstate through Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York and finally Pennsylvania.  We had a nice spot. Never even realized we were in the town where the Little League World Series was happening!  Since it was a weekend, we were staying for 2 nights.  We did drive up to see if we could see the baseball field, but again, big crowds.  So decided to go do a little junking instead.  Found a few treasures and a covered bridge to look at.  Enjoyed lamb chops and yellow-pea casserole for dinner.

Next day’s destination was Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park in West Virginia.  Very nice!  It was full hookup but only 30 amp.

After that we headed into Kentucky where we stayed at Carter Caves State Resort Park.  Nice and shady with 50 amp sites.  Enjoyed the thunderstorms.  The next night took us into Tennessee where we stayed at Nashville North Resort. Don’t really recommend it as it was very loud and located by Interstate 65.

We traveled to the other side of the state to stay at Graceland RV Park in Memphis.  It’s not a wonderful park, but it’s location allows you to walk over to Graceland.  We enjoyed the tour here.  Very nicely done.  I can mark it off of the bucket list!  I do have to say that the crime must really be here. As we’re driving in, about 8 cop cars start coming from all directions. There had been a cop shooting apparently.  Then you go through a guard gate to get into the campground.  Oh well……another sign of the times.  Enjoyed a great meal at Marlowes BBQ.

The last leg of this awesome journey took us to Cajun Palms RV Resort near Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.  It was so nice to get into the swimming pool!  Had a wonderful dinner at Pat’s. 

And on September 2 we pulled into our driveway and let the jacks down for a while!  We drove 11,229 miles in 99 days.  We enjoyed 50 campgrounds (I’m a pro on setting up and taking down lol), drove through 17 states and 5 Canadian provinces. And we even got to experience traveling with the highest diesel prices we have ever seen!  We made memories that we will always treasure!  There were many really great souvenirs from the road on this road trip!
