Finishing Up The Great Province of Quebec!

We have spent two weeks here in Quebec!  And it is such a beautiful province!  One thing about driving along the St. Lawrence River, you are presented with beautiful views of lots and lots of farmland.  There was a pretty harbor by our campground tonight and we enjoyed the walk there.

Beautiful churches everywhere!

Interesting cement art

The statues lead out into the water.

Had to buy a mosquito zapper!

Our next campground was called Camping Annie where we had full hookups, although they only have 30 amp here. But temps are pretty cool and it’s ok!  The campground is located in Grand Metis, Quebec.  The St. Lawrence River is starting to shape into a bay and you can really smell the salt water.  Our tour hosts made us strawberry pancakes on July 1 to celebrate Canada Day (similar to our July 4).  We did a tour of the Redford Gardens which was simply amazing!  I have never seen blue poppies.  The day ended with dinner down the road with 2 other couples. Ron and I went for the all inclusive plate for 2!  Wow!  I did notice a difference here in restaurants and restaurants back home.  Well, for one, everyone was speaking French (they gave us American menus thankfully!).  And on every table was several bottles of wine and they were really enjoying it!

Beautiful sunset!

Our dinner for two!

I love their peonies!

Not sure what these were called, but it looks like they made a good bug trapper!

Our next stop was at Forillon National Park.  It was our longest drive yet – about 230 miles. But Hwy. 132 hugs the coastline, we had mountainous terrain, and there are little villages all along the route.  Factor in the rain. But it was a beautiful drive!  The Gaspe’ peninsula is breathtaking!  We are camping at Petit-Gaspe Campground where we actually have electric and water and a really good campsite.

Our campsite in the national park

We took a day to drive through the park.  Beautiful Cap-Bon-Ami.  The Pointe-au-Pe’re Lighthouse.  St. Peter’s Church and cemetery. Some of the historical houses at Grande-Grave.  Even saw whales blowing out in the water!  I still find it hard to believe the mountains we are in are part of the Appalachian Mountains.  There’s a lot of fishing history here. There are lots of signage and reminders that pay homage to the individuals whose properties were expropriated when Forillon National Park was created in 1970.

Our neighbors behind us took our rig picture!  Highway 132 winds along the coast.

Canadian National Parks always have the red chairs in a scenic spot for you.

Found us a 2-holer!

I like mama's kerchief hanging on the bed post.

Beautiful stove!

General Store still smelled like fish.

Ron getting the scoop from the park ranger.

Was surprised to see a chicken at the top of the steeple.

A couple of tourists walking the beach.

On Independence Day, July 4, we headed to Perce’, Quebec where we were going to camp for 3 nights at Chalets Camping Nature Ocean.  It was a beautiful drive!  Perce’ is a quaint and beautiful town.  From our campground, we had great views of Perce’ Rock and Ile-Bonaventure.

Happy 4th of July!  Yep, needed a fire and a jacket!

A few seals

The next day we had a 10:00 boat tour through the National Park Service of Perce’ Rock and around Ile Bonaventure.  There were thousands of birds and we also saw a few seals.  The weather was great, but cool.  We were treated to a very good lunch at La Maison de Pecheur. Afterwards, we went exploring a little more.  Enjoyed a big campfire with our camping friends.

Do you see all the birds?

Our friend Nancy, all bundled up.

Our last day here in Quebec was a “rest” day and it couldn’t have been timed any better as it has been raining all day, it’s in the 50’s and there’s wind blowing. Perfect day to stay in and get caught up on things and cook some chicken soup!  Tomorrow we are heading to Campbellton, New Brunswick with a stop at Miguasha National Park.  And we enter Atlantic time zone, so maybe we won't be woken up by the sun at 4:30!
